– The phrase shrewd people DON’T use till they secure power
As a Yoruba man from Southwestern Nigeria, I’m conversant with the axiom, “Bí ọwọ́ ọmọdé kò bá tẹ ẹ̀kù idà, kìí bèrè ikú tó pa baba òun.” That translates to “The child doesn’t ask about the cause of his father’s death, till he seizes the hilt of the sword.” Considering the other Yoruba aphorism that says, “Ibi gbogbo là’ńk’ádìẹ alẹ́, àgò l’ó y’àtọ̀ (chickens go home to roost everywhere, it is the coops that differ in different societies,)” I’m aware that the other parts of the world have similar sayings as the first one above. The prevalent one among the English-speaking cultures goes like, “DON’T COUNT YOUR CHICKENS BEFORE THEY HATCH.” From the above insights, shrewd people DON’T say they will be other people’s nightmares, till they have the power to do so.
