ENGLISH TRANSLATION BY DELE AJAJA: We don’t shave the head in the absence of the owner of the head. The snail’s shell is used for scraping pot after the demise of the snail.
CLARIFICATIONS: The barber cannot shave someone’s head, unless the person goes to the barber’s shop, or the barber goes to the person’s home. Similarly, the snail has to be removed from its shell (killed or eaten) before the shell could become an implement for scraping the pot. This apothegm enunciates that we cannot sideline the people involved in issues, when dealing with those issues.
