YORUBA: LANGUAGE OF THE DEEP

YORUBA: LANGUAGE OF THE DEEP

– The Dictum of the Brave

YORUBA: Òwúyẹ́wuyẹ̀ wúyẹ́kẹ́, aṣòro sọ bí ọ̀rọ̀. B’áa’wí, a o kú; báà’wí, ọ̀run là ńlọ. Ìgbà l’à ń’lò, ẹnìkan ò lo’lé ayé gbó.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION BY DELE AJAJA: Hush-hush, as problematic as speaking up. We shall die, if we speak up; we shall expire, if we don’t speak up. People live only during their own times, no one lives infinitely.

CLARIFICATION: A lot of people are afraid to speak up, because of  the fear of retaliation by the people they speak about. However, whether people are afraid to speak up or not, we shall all die eventually. Essentially, people are encouraged to speak up when it matters.

IMAGE: Speak up; stand by what is right.
